Parsec raspberry pi 44/20/2023 ![]() ![]() Install different OS versions from raspberry pi imager. I feeling I am missing something simple but I have looked through several forums and have not been able to find a solution.īelow are things I have tried but ended up with the same result:Ĭopied and ran scripts to do the installation found in. ![]() I feel it is a raspebrry pi knowledge deficit issue not a parsec issue as their installation method is pretty straight forward but I could be wrong. I am not sure where the terminal is looking for the executable but I did find parsecd in the /bin folder. So I tried to run it from the terminal, "parsecd" and "libopenmaxil.so: cannot open share object file: No such file or directory". I have a fresh install from raspberry pi imager for my raspberry pi 3b+ and installed parsec on it but when I click on the parsec shortcut an hourglass next to the mouse cursor appears for a few seconds than disappears and nothing happens. you can create a free account on their website.I am relatively new to raspberry pi OS and Linux in general. It will ask you for your username and password, these are your Parsec Account details. To run Parsec on your Pi, run the command Your Server Id will be available in the top right corner of this window. Although the new way of finding your Server ID is by opening the Parsec client on your desktop, choosing Manage under your desktop, like this: I like to find it in the Console which you can find by right clicking on your Parsec System Tray Icon and clicking on Show Console. You will be asked for your server ID, this is found in a couple of places. #4 marks the install script as executable and then tells is to run. #3 brings us into the folder that the previous command created #2 clones the files we need to make this work. If we were installing Parsec on Raspbian we would follow the steps on the Parsec website, but since we’re installing it on RetroPie we need to follow the instructions laid out by GitHub user Kozova1 available here. I find for best results you’ll want to be wired in on both your desktop and your Pi to reduce latency and really improve gameplay. Parsec is great, it allows us to stream games from our more powerful desktop computers, or a rented gaming rig in the cloud. You will need to create an account, but that’s free. ![]() You’ll need sufficient enough bandwidth, as well as a low latency for the game. Because the Raspberry Pi is great at displaying HD video, gameplay is really smooth as long as the network is up to the task. Simply head over to the Parsec website and download the latest client. In his nice tutorial video, James Stringer from Parsec demonstrates how to setup the Parsec service to use a Raspberry Pi 3 as the client. ![]() This will take a while (~30 minutes…ish) Install Parsec on Windows Desktop Update the RetroPie Setup Script and then perform the Basic Install. We’re not quite done with the setup so select RetroPie and then select RetroPie Setup. We want to set a decent amount of memory for our GPU so let’s select Memory Split and enter 320. Under the RetroPie menu, select Raspi-Config and select Advanced Options. Connect to WiFi unless you’re plugged in (#teamEthernet). Once you’ve booted you’ll be greeted with the Emulation Station front end, and at this point we don’t have any emulators installed so we we will only see the RetroPie option. Your Pi will go through its initial configuration. Plug your SD Card in the Pi and add power. Alternatively, Windows users can use Win32DiskImager. Since I’m using Ubuntu I’ll go with Etcher, but you can use Etcher on Windows, Mac or Linux. Once this finishes downloading, unzip the archive with your favorite application (7-Zip, Winrar, Archive, etc…) and now write your image to the SD Card. If you have a Raspberry Pi Zero, Zero W or 1st Generation, click the Raspberry Pi 0/1 link and if you have a Raspberry Pi 2, 3 Model B, or 3 Model B +, grab the Raspberry Pi 2/3 image. If you grab the wrong image this won’t work. Head on over to the RetroPie Downloads Page and pick the appropriate image. Who wouldn’t want to play GTA V on a Raspberry Pi in the living room instead of on a chair at the desk? While some of these consoles work better than others, and sometimes different games can be difficult, we can play modern AAA titles with our Raspberry Pi. From Commodore64, to NES, to Playstation. The Raspberry Pi makes for one awesome retro gaming machine. Click here to go to the new updated article and video. This article references out of date software that doesn't work anymore. ![]()

I quit all social media4/19/2023 ![]() ![]() I mentioned this a little before, but without the constant on-stream of other people’s thoughts and reels and captions and projects and families, I was freed up to just listen to myself. This actually helped me to like myself more, in all my normal-ness, with all the same human needs as everyone else, instead of constantly feeling like I am not enough or not doing enough. Instead of using those moments to potentially prove something to the people on Instagram, I was just there, looking at my kids faces, or cleaning dishes, or sitting on the porch - doing something wonderful, hard, boring, embarrassing, or normal. ![]() Oh my goodness, what a relief! Suddenly it wasn’t about doing things that would make cute instagram moments, but doing things that felt right for myself and my family in that moment. It took some time, but I really felt a breakthrough once I realized that I didn’t have that constant voice in my head pressuring me to document moments throughout my day (before I missed them!) I was allowed to just live them. It’s funny, how proving our connectedness can make ourselves, and others, feel so much less connected. I called it life without the fourth wall (if you have any theater in your background, you know the fourth wall is the imaginary wall of the stage into which the audience looks and towards which the actors play) and that’s exactly what it was! Just life being lived, non-performative. I should be taking a picture or video of this… I should be posting it… I should be posting this like so-and-so… I should know what so-and-so is up to…you know, this need to capture and prove my worth, time, and connectedness in some way. ![]() I think what this really stemmed from was an immediate release of the “should be” voice in my head. Unmistakably the most notable, and immediate, difference for me. Just me, my thoughts, John, and sweet sweet sleep. The whole “getting ready for bed” routine was pretty effortlessly phone-free, and included things like my nightly candle-and-shower, lotioning up, a big glass of water, and reading. Without social media, it wasn’t hard to just set my phone down before getting ready for bed, and not pick it up again until the next morning. Without the weight of the thoughts, actions, opinions, and goings-on of hundreds of people constantly playing through my mind, I found it infinitely easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. From there, I was better able to validate those things to myself. Without the extra noise of others’ lives, I became more attuned to my own voice, needs, and desires again. This practice helped me to listen to myself better. I started making decisions based on what I decided would be best for me and my family. Without any need to document, I was free to move about the cabin of my life exactly how I wanted and needed to. This looked like less having to “keep up” with lifestyle trends - for me those were clothing, home interiors, parenting, and seeing what friends were doing without me. It wasn’t about how I would document it - it was about being together. ![]() Also, when I connected with family or friends, I was all in on that moment, face to face. And when I did connect, I could start from square one, without knowing any social-media-derived tidbits of their life. Because I didn’t have a birds-eye view into everyone’s life, I was tasked to reach out directly if I wanted to connect with someone. The thing that I thought might be affected in a negative way was actually one of the main things that majorly benefitted. Your friendships and relationships will improve. Talk about an immediate boost of quiet and calm! So much less noise! All the other stuff, especially from people I don’t know in person, I really didn’t need to know. I didn’t want to be the one person that didn’t know what other people were talking about, or to miss out on things that family and close friends were posting (like their kiddos, projects, or thoughts.) But honestly? Once I let people know I wouldn’t be on socials, they didn’t expect me to know! And they were happy to fill me in in person. One of my biggest trepidations about quitting social media was the fear of missing out. Here are my top 10 takeaways on life without social media! ![]()

Animated coin flip4/19/2023 ![]() ![]() Three days later, it was Orville’s turn and the first successful flight was finally made. Unfortunately for Wilbur, this first attempt ended with a crash after flying only 3.5 seconds. It landed in Wilbur’s favor, winning him the first chance to fly. ![]() ![]() To determine who would fly the plane first, Wilbur pulled a coin from his pocket and flipped it into the air. On December 14, 1903, the Wright brothers (Wilbur and Orville) were gearing up for the world’s first heavier-than-air flight. The historic coin was later dubbed the Portland Penny. Pettygrove won, and named the city Portland after his hometown of Portland, ME. They decided to leave the naming rights to chance with a best-out-of-three coin toss. The City of Portland’s two founders, Francis Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy, both wanted to name the 640 acre area which was called The Clearing at the time. One of the most famous flips in history took place in 1845 with a one-cent coin. While you're passively standing there moping īut the moment the penny is up in the air, No-not so that chance shall decide the affair The best way to solve the dilemma, you'll find, Whenever you're called on to make up your mind, In his book titled Grooks, the Danish poet Piet Hein included a poem entitled “A Psychological Tip” which relates to the Freudian Coin Toss. By analyzing your reaction, you may realize that you actually knew the choice that you wanted to make all along! Ask yourself: Am I pleased? Am I disappointed?” This method of flipping is sometimes called the Freudian Coin Toss. Allegedly, Freud would then say “Look into your own reactions. When faced with someone who was struggling to make a decision, Freud would sometimes suggest that they flip a coin. In fact, it is said that Sigmund Freud himself realized this phenomenon and used it to his advantage. In this scenario, instead of letting the coin decide, you may want to go with the choice that you now realize you really wanted. Sometimes, however, you may find that you’re disappointed with the result. Flipping a coin can be very useful in these situations. People are often faced with difficult decisions between two choices. Sometimes even scientists will flip a coin to determine the order of listed authors for use in academic publications. In politics, a flip is sometimes used to determine an election in the event that two candidates receive the same number of votes. Many sports, such as football (both American and non-American versions), eSports, cricket, tennis, and fencing, flip a coin to determine which team goes first in a match, or to determine a winner in the event of a draw. Today, the practice of coin flipping can be found all over the world. Players would then flip the shell in the air and call the correct side, just like we do now! The other side of the shell would remain its original color. It is believed that players would cover one side of a shell with a black or very dark brown substance called “black pitch” - a resinous goo which is obtained from trees. While the actual origin of the coin toss is up for debate, many historians believe it originated in Ancient Greece. “Pile” comes from a Middle English term which means “reverse of a coin.” In Peru, the game is called “face or seal,” even to this day! In ancient China, the game was known as “ship or head.” This is because ancient Chinese coins were minted with a ship on one side and a head on the other. Later in history, the British called the game “cross and pile.” At the time, many coins depicted a cross on one side. The outcomes of those flips were considered to be legally binding. During this time, flips were utilized to make some very serious decisions, including those related to criminality, property, and marriage. Julius Caesar himself endorsed the coin flip in 49 BC when he began minting coins which depicted his name. During this period, Romans called the game “navia aut caput,” which translates to “ship or head.” This is because some Roman coins had a ship on one side and the head (or “bust”) of the emperor on the other side. Metal coins were first manufactured as early as the 7th century BC, however, the first accounts of the practice of coin flipping can be found in ancient Rome. ![]()

Ishmael discusses cetology (the zoological classification and natural history of the whale), and describes the crew members. On a cold Christmas Day, the Pequod leaves the harbor. While provisions are loaded, shadowy figures board the ship. A man named Elijah prophesies a dire fate should Ishmael and Queequeg join Ahab. They hire Queequeg the following morning. Peleg describes Captain Ahab: "He's a grand, ungodly, god-like man" who nevertheless "has his humanities". Ishmael signs up with the Quaker ship-owners Bildad and Peleg for a voyage on their whaler Pequod. The next morning, Ishmael and Queequeg attend Father Mapple's sermon on Jonah, then head for Nantucket. Ishmael travels in December from Manhattan Island to New Bedford, Massachusetts, with plans to sign up for a whaling voyage. Reviewers in Britain were largely favorable, though some objected that the tale seemed to be told by a narrator who perished with the ship, as the British edition lacked the epilogue recounting Ishmael's survival. ![]() The whale, however, appears in the text of both editions as "Moby Dick", without the hyphen. ![]() The London publisher, Richard Bentley, censored or changed sensitive passages Melville made revisions as well, including a last-minute change of the title for the New York edition. The book was first published (in three volumes) as The Whale in London in October 1851, and under its definitive title, Moby-Dick, or, The Whale, in a single-volume edition in New York in November. In August 1850, with the manuscript perhaps half finished, he met Nathaniel Hawthorne and was deeply impressed by his Mosses from an Old Manse, which he compared to Shakespeare in its cosmic ambitions. In addition to narrative prose, Melville uses styles and literary devices ranging from songs, poetry, and catalogs to Shakespearean stage directions, soliloquies, and asides. The book's literary influences include Shakespeare, Carlyle and the Bible. The detailed and realistic descriptions of whale hunting and of extracting whale oil, as well as life aboard ship among a culturally diverse crew, are mixed with exploration of class and social status, good and evil, and the existence of God. The white whale is modeled on a notoriously hard-to-catch albino whale Mocha Dick, and the book's ending is based on the sinking of the whaleship Essex in 1820. Melville drew on his experience as a common sailor from 1841 to 1844, including on whalers, and on wide reading in whaling literature. Melville began writing Moby-Dick in February 1850 and finished 18 months later, a year after he had anticipated. Its opening sentence, "Call me Ishmael", is among world literature's most famous. Lawrence called it "one of the strangest and most wonderful books in the world" and "the greatest book of the sea ever written". William Faulkner said he wished he had written the book himself, and D. Its reputation as a Great American Novel was established only in the 20th century, after the 1919 centennial of its author's birth. A contribution to the literature of the American Renaissance, Moby-Dick was published to mixed reviews, was a commercial failure, and was out of print at the time of the author's death in 1891. The book is the sailor Ishmael's narrative of the maniacal quest of Ahab, captain of the whaling ship Pequod, for vengeance against Moby Dick, the giant white sperm whale that crippled him on the ship's previous voyage.
